Well Man: Mental Health
Provides an understanding of the specific challenges men face to their mental health and how we can better support each other.
It is increasingly clear that one of the most pressing health problems we are currently facing is an increase in conditions categories under “mental health”. A silent and often invisible epidemic, presenting mostly as anxiety, addictive behaviours, depression and, more recently, body image difficulties, is costing businesses in the UK around £33 billion a year. And there’s the immeasurable short and longterm costs to men, women and their families.
This workshop shares the current state of mental health, in particular the challenges men face, viewed in the context of wider external factors. It explains how notions of masculinity impact mental and emotional wellbeing and explores the personal, societal and cultural factors influencing how men relate to their mental health.
Participants will leave with an understanding of the role of stress and burnout and spotting signs of distress in ourselves and others and a knowledge off actions we can take to improve things on personal, workplace and community levels.
