Making Sense of Mental Health

 

Aims to make participants better informed and comfortable in addressing mental health, looking at what we can do to help ourselves and others.

As greater awareness and attention is paid to the huge costs of mental illness to both individual employees and the business bottom line, it’s vital that companies find a balanced approach to what can sometime seems like a difficult subject to start addressing.

Things have progressed a great deal when it comes to taking colleagues’ mental health seriously over the last decade. Paradoxically one of the up-sides of the last two years in a global pandemic is that poor mental health has forced the matter into the spotlight. It is no longer not ok for it not to be safe to talk about mental health and illness. There is a collective responsibility to protect people in distress, prevent illness and modify work-related risk factors.

This introductory workshop, suitable for all staff, aims to support companies like yours to have the confidence to open up a positive conversation, remove the stigma around mental health and find the best way forward for your business.

The workshop shares the facts and figures that make it an essential matter to address, and explores the myths and misunderstandings that can contribute to stigma and prejudice. We look at the underlying factors that can be readily addressed in the workplace, including the role of stress, and what can be done to improve things.

The workshop also provides an overview of the most common ways mental ill-health can show up at work, and importantly shares the protective factors and how everyone can learn skills and tools to be well.

The workshop is grounded in science and evidence, led by leading Work Well Being Associate a medical doctor with a background in psychiatry and herself an ‘expert by experience’.
