Making the Most of Your Time

Explores how to break away from distraction and constant stimulation, and how to live and work with greater calm, ease and focus.

Time management is the holy grail of our busy working lives: with so many competing demands, how can we get everything done and with so many distractions, how can we stay focused?

This insightful and practical workshop explores some powerful techniques to identify what’s really important and how to prioritise it. It teaches effective tools to help overcome common obstacles such as procrastination, and shares how to notice the patterns that help and hinder you and create better, lasting habits.

Participants will learn about the importance of effective time chunking with a quick study of how successful creative people have stuck to routines that enabled their high levels of productivity. We explore the science behind shorter spans of concentration and simple techniques like writing down what you’re going to focus on and learning to plan your day to make the most of when your focus is best.

Time is constantly moving past us and yet we can make the best use of it if we are well prepared and are feeling healthy and mentally agile. This means looking after ourselves throughout the day (and night), getting the right kinds of rest, eating well and being mindful of how we spend our time. We’ll cover some simple approaches to ensure that you come to your work with the best mindset and are feeling fully prepared to focus well and work hard.

Modern neuroscience tells us that it takes time for us to bring our full cognitive capacity to tasks - we need to ‘get into’ the subject matter, remind ourselves of what we’ve already done, and mentally get to grips with the challenges that we face. This all points us towards creating larger portions of time where we can work deeply. We’ll cover implementable practises for deep work throughout your day and will cover how to bring this new way of working to your team and those around you. After all, working effectively and making the most of your time is far easier if those around you are supportive of the methods and practises you are putting into place.

Participants will also explore the use of routines and rituals to enhance productivity. Small and easily repeatable routines can cultivate significant meaning and power over time. In particular we’ll look at the significance of an end of day ritual and what the psychological research tells us about creating decent chunks of time for rest and recuperation.

Participants will leave the workshop with a new sense of focus, feeling empowered to become more productive and energised.
